Undertank Corrosion Monitoring

Description:

In the case of ground storage tanks constructed on oily sand tank pads, the oily sand layer and air gaps under the bottom plates can result in severe corrosion.

Undertank corrosion monitoring helps to measure and control this type of corrosion.

Methodology:

Special Electrical resistance (ER) probes designed for heavy duty service conditions such as underground and structural monitoring of pipelines, vessels, above and below ground storage tanks and structures – are inserted into the sand or soil foundation to measure the corrosivity of the underlying environment.

With a periodic measurement of change in resistance of the ER probe using a data logger, the corrosion rates are determined and control measures can be taken.
